Types Of Liposuction – Know Your Options!

POSTED ON TUESDAY, MAY 30, 2017 AT 5:51 PM by Dr. Elie Levine

There are a variety of minimally invasive liposuction techniques available to sculpt the body! Each of these lipo procedures can treat stubborn fat for natural-looking results. Liposuction can target multiple areas of the body, including the neck, chin, breasts, arms, back, midsection, legs, and thighs. At NYC Lipo, we offer multiple modalities to best fit your liposuction goals, including laser lipo, ultrasound liposuction, radio frequency lipo, and non-surgical liposuction. Learn more about our liposuction techniques below.

Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction utilizes a specialized numbing fluid to prepare the treatment area(s) for liposuction. The tumescent technique can reduce patient discomfort helping patients stay active. Tumescent lipo can treat both smaller and larger areas of stubborn fat.

Super Wet Liposuction

During super wet liposuction, a small amount of numbing solution (approximately half of the fluid used during tumescent liposuction) is injected into the treatment area(s). Super wet lipo can result in faster procedure times for patients. The super wet technique can be used for all areas of the body.

Power Assisted Liposuction

Power assisted liposuction can remove dense clusters of stubborn fat using a vibrating cannula. This cannula uses quick oscillations to break apart fat cells and can be extremely effective when treating larger areas of the body, such as the back or midsection.

SmartLipo®

SmartLipo® is an innovative laser liposuction technique that can remove smaller fat deposits with precision. SmartLipo® sends laser heat energy to the treatment area, eliminating excess fat cells and tightening loose skin for a firmer-looking result.

VASER® LipoSelection

VASER® LipoSelection utilizes ultrasound technology to remove stubborn fat. During treatment, VASER® energy is delivered to the target area(s), separating unwanted fat cells from surrounding tissue and eliminating them. VASER® LipoSelection can also encourage the contraction of collagen fibers below the skin, leading to skin tightening benefits.

BodyTite™

BodyTite™ combines radio frequency technology and liposuction to tighten lax skin and remove small amounts of stubborn fat. During your BodyTite™ procedure, radio frequency energy liquefies fat cells, tightens fibrous tissues, and encourages collagen production to achieve a slimmer, firmer result.

SculpSure™

SculpSure™ is a non-invasive lipo technique that can remove fat pockets without undergoing surgery. SculpSure™ sends hyperthermic laser energy to the body using specialized applicators that are placed over the treatment site. Laser energy disrupts fat cells, resulting in their gradual removal from the body. SculpSure™ requires no downtime or recovery and patients can resume their daily activities immediately.

Melanoma / Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month

POSTED ON THURSDAY, MAY 25, 2017 AT 3:40 PM by Dr. Jody Levine

May is Melanoma / Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month. Skin cancer is one of the most widespread cancers, affecting millions of people each year. Skin cancer can stem from genetics, overexposure to the sun, excessive tanning, and environmental factors. Often, skin cancer can be efficiently treated if caught early. It is important for patients to have a board-certified dermatologist examine any atypical moles or suspicious growths. At Plastic Surgery and Dermatology of NYC, our dermatologists can properly diagnose and treat different types of skin cancer, including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma.

Skin Cancer Prevention

Perhaps the most effective way to reduce your risk of skin cancer is to limit and monitor your sun exposure. You should always apply sunscreen (even on cloudy days) and try to cover up your skin under long sleeves or a hat if you are going to be in the sun for an extended period of time. Eliminating tanning at tanning booths is another way to reduce your risk of developing skin cancer, as tanning beds deliver harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays to the skin.

Skin Cancer Diagnosis & Treatment

Patients are encouraged to self-check for any atypical moles, especially those that change in size, color, or shape. Moles that bleed or have irregular borders, as well as scaly or crusty patches of skin, should be examined by a board-certified dermatologist. Cancerous growths can be surgically removed and sent to a laboratory for analysis.

Types Of Skin Cancer

There are many different types of skin cancer, ranging from cancers that are easily treated and rarely spread (basal cell carcinoma) to more severe forms (melanoma). Below is an overview of some of the more common skin cancers.

Basal Cell Carcinoma

The most common form of skin cancer

Usually a lump or patch that is flesh-colored

Rarely spreads to the rest of the body

Squamous Cell Carcinoma

The second most common form of skin cancer

Usually a red patch or bump

Slow-growing and may spread to adjacent areas

Melanoma

Most serious form of skin cancer

Usually dark brown in appearance

Can spread to other areas or organs and may develop anywhere

Actinic Keratosis

Precancerous lesions that can lead to skin cancer

Usually a scaly or crusty patch

Can become cancerous if not treated

A Complete Non-Surgical Facelift Using FaceTite™ & Cosmetic Fillers!

POSTED ON THURSDAY, MAY 04, 2017 AT 3:44 PM by Dr. Elie Levine

Patients who would like to reduce the signs of facial aging and replenish volume without undergoing traditional facelift surgery may instead benefit from a non-surgical facelift. This procedure can add natural-looking volume to the face and tighten drooping skin in one comprehensive treatment. The non-surgical facelift combines cosmetic injectables with FaceTite™ radio frequency treatment to achieve a younger-looking facial profile. Opting for a non-invasive facelift has many benefits. The non-surgical facelift results in less procedure time, downtime, and overall recovery than a standard facelift. At Plastic Surgery and Dermatology of NYC, we offer the non-surgical facelift to restore facial definition.

Cosmetic Injectables To Add Natural-Looking Volume

Cosmetic injectables can improve wrinkles, fine lines, and hollowing in under 30 minutes using BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers. BOTOX® can temporarily ease facial muscles that result in furrows and wrinkles, while cosmetic fillers like Juvederm™Restylane®, Belotero®, Voluma™, Radiesse®, and Perlane® can add natural-looking volume to facial features and smooth fine lines. Additionally, Sculptra® can be injected into the deep dermis to stimulate collagen production and improve skin structure around the mid-to-lower face.

FaceTite™ To Reduce Sagging And Add Lift

FaceTite™ can firm lax facial skin to reduce drooping and sagging. FaceTite™ uses radio frequency energy to tighten the initial layers of skin, while also stimulating the production of collagen fibers under the surface of your skin. This results in a smoother, firmer-looking facial profile. Additionally, FaceTite™ treatment can also remove small amounts of unwanted fat, if necessary, to further enhance facial definition.

How Does A Non-Surgical Facelift Compare To Facelift Surgery?

Undergoing a non-surgical facelift can result in less healing time than facelift surgery. Non-invasive facelift patients generally experience only a few days of downtime. In contrast, a traditional facelift usually requires weeks of healing time and recovery. However, facelift surgery can yield longer-lasting facial rejuvenation results than a non-invasive facelift. Your plastic surgeon can discuss which of these procedures best fits your needs during your consultation.

5 Reasons To Consider Kybella™ To Reduce Double Chin

POSTED ON MONDAY, MAY 01, 2017 AT 10:25 AM by Dr. Jody Levine

Kybella™ is the first non-surgical double chin treatment available! This procedure can achieve natural-looking results without the need for extensive recovery time. Kybella™ targets submental fat cells underneath the chin that can take away from jawline definition. These unwanted fat cells are often extremely difficult to reduce through traditional dieting and exercise. Kybella™ can achieve long-lasting improvements to your facial profile. Here’s 5 reasons to consider Kybella™ treatment to reduce double chin!

1. Targets Submental Fat Cells That Cause Double Chin

Kybella™ can reduce double chin by eliminating excess submental fat cells. Kybella™ is made from deoxycholic acid, which is a natural substance in your body that aids in the breakdown of fat cells. Upon injection, the Kybella™ solution begins targeting submental fat cells. Over time, your body naturally breaks down this unwanted fat and removes it from your system.

2. Fast Treatments

Kybella™ treatments can be completed in under a half hour! During your procedure, the Kybella™ solution is administered through a series of injections that are strategically placed around the submental area. Multiple Kybella™ treatments are recommended for optimal results. Each Kybella™ session is spaced out approximately one month apart from the previous treatment.

3. No Recovery Time

There is virtually no healing time required after undergoing Kybella™ treatment. Some mild swelling or tenderness may temporarily occur after your procedure, but these effects should subside within a few weeks. Patients can usually resume their daily activities immediately following Kybella™ treatment.

4. Accentuates The Face And Jawline

Kybella™ treatment can enhance the contours of your chin, neck, and jawline. The reduction of a double chin can also accentuate your overall facial symmetry and add balance to your facial profile.

5. Results Are Long-Lasting

Kybella™ can achieve long-lasting improvements to jawline definition. Once excess fat cells are removed, they cannot return. However, new buildups of excess fat can occur over time. We recommend that all Kybella™ patients maintain a consistent diet and exercise routine after treatment to help sustain results.

NYC dermatologist, Dr. Jody Levine, NYC plastic surgeon, Dr. Elie Levine, and the staff at Plastic Surgery and Dermatology of NYC welcome any questions you may have about Kybella™, as well as our other non-surgical treatments. Your Guide To Cosmetic Fillers – Which Injectables Are Right For You?

POSTED ON THURSDAY, APRIL 27, 2017 AT 3:10 PM by Dr. Jody Levine

Which cosmetic injectable is right for you? These hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers can provide temporary, natural-looking volume without the need for any downtime! Though each cosmetic injectable can reduce the signs of facial aging and accentuate facial features, they are designed to target specific conditions. Thinner dermal fillers, like Belotero® and Restylane®, can treat fine lines, Juvéderm® can plump the lips, Voluma® can address hollowed cheeks, and Radiesse® can volumize the lower face. These cosmetic fillers may also be combined to achieve substantial results in one comprehensive treatment. See which filler(s) can best fit your procedure goals below.

Belotero®

Belotero® is specially designed to target fine lines close to the surface of the skin. Belotero® has a thinner, lighter consistency than other dermal fillers, making it an ideal option to be injected superficially to fill mild facial lines around the chin, mouth, and lips, as well as under the eyes.

Restylane®

Restylane® fillers can accomplish a variety of procedure goals. Restylane® Silk is a lighter option that can target superficial smile lines, as well as wrinkles around the eyes. Additionally, Restylane® Silk can be used to plump the lips. Restylane® Lyft is a thicker filler that is injected into the deep dermis to provide natural-looking volume. Restylane® Lyft can fill hollowed cheeks and moderate-to-severe wrinkles around the midface.

Juvéderm®

Juvéderm® dermal fillers can volumize superficial facial wrinkles, as well as deeper folds. Juvéderm® fillers are extremely versatile and can target nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and lip lines. Juvéderm® Ultra is thinner and ideal for fine lines found closer to the surface of the skin, while Juvéderm® Ultra Plus is thicker and designed to treat deeper wrinkles and creases.

Voluma®

Voluma® can add lift and fullness to the cheeks. This filler has a thicker consistency than most other cosmetic injectables, allowing it to be injected into the deep dermis to correct hollowing. Voluma® can achieve longer-lasting results than other hyaluronic acid-based fillers.

Radiesse®

Radiesse® can restore lost volume to the lower face and reduce sagging by adding lift to your facial features. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Radiesse® is made from calcium-based microspheres, which help restore fullness and encourage the production of new collagen to enhance skin structure and elasticity. Radiesse® can target the chin, as well as wrinkles around the mouth.

NYC dermatologist, Dr. Jody Levine, NYC plastic surgeon, Dr. Elie Levine, and the staff at Plastic Surgery and Dermatology of NYC welcome any questions you may have about Belotero®, Restylane®, Juvéderm®, Voluma®, and Radiesse®, as well as our other cosmetic injectables.
