Breast cancer is the most common cancer found in women, and approximately one in eight women will be affected over the course of their lives. Additionally, thousands of men develop breast cancer each year. Breast Cancer Awareness Month not only reminds us of those who have been diagnosed and have fought breast cancer so bravely, but it also raises awareness about options following surgery that many women may not realize are available. The decision to undergo breast reconstruction after breast cancer is an important decision in the recovery process for many survivors. There are numerous questions that need to be considered when undergoing a breast reconstruction procedure post-mastectomy to determine the best option for you.
What Are My Options?
Patients can choose from three types of breast implants: silicone gel implants, saline implants, and gummy implants. All three of these options come in different implant shapes for natural-looking results, including round and teardrop-shaped implants. A tissue expander is used to slowly stretch the skin and muscle in order to create a pocket in which to place your breast implant.
Tissue Flap Surgery
Tissue flap surgery utilizes skin, muscle, and fat from your body to produce a more natural-looking appearance. Tissue flaps can be taken from a variety of areas, including the back and abdomen. While the tissue flap method can produce more realistic-looking results, it is important to know that these procedures are more invasive—requiring more downtime after surgery.
Autologous fat transfer, also known as fat grafting, is another breast reconstruction procedure that harvests fat cells from other parts of your body to recreate a breast. This fat is carefully collected to ensure survival during the transfer. Once processed, these cells are injected into the breast area.
What Results Can I Expect?
All three of these procedures can produce natural-looking results and help restore the appearance of breasts. Depending on the procedure, it may take weeks, or even months, for your final results to take shape. Once they are achieved, however, they are long-lasting.
Breast plastic surgeon Dr. Elie Levine will sit down and discuss each breast reconstruction option with you in order to create a treatment plan to achieve natural-looking results that fit your goals and desires.

The summer may be over, but that doesn’t mean the sultry sun failed to leave its mark. Symptoms of sun damage, such as redness and uneven pigmentation, are often undesirable after-effects of a summer well spent. Though the face is most equated with sun damage, your entire body is prone to the effects of ultraviolet rays. Repeated exposure to the sun can break down collagen—causing fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven pigmentation. Plastic Surgery and Dermatology of NYC offers different laser and light-based therapies that are designed to improve skin tone and keep skin looking rejuvenated!
Laser skin resurfacing treats sun damage with revolutionary laser technology! Utilizing the PicoSure® Laser, this procedure delivers precise bursts of energy to the affected area without damaging surrounding skin cells. The PicoSure® Laser resurfaces your skin, allowing fresh skin cells to grow—improving skin texture and pigmentation. The laser’s energy also stimulates collagen production below the surface of your skin; this new collagen provides firmness and elasticity to round out your smooth new look. Laser skin resurfacing can be performed on multiple areas of the body as well, including the face, chest, arms, hands, and legs, among others.
Light therapies can also be utilized to treat the medical effects of sun damage—and not only the cosmetic effects. Photodynamic therapy is a non-invasive procedure that uses a photosensitizing topical medication and a light to target certain skin cells that show signs of damage. First, a photosensitizing solution is applied to the area of uneven pigmentation. The solution is absorbed by damaged skin cells being targeted. The area is then exposed to light, which activates the photosensitizing solution and destroys the precancerous or cancerous sun-damaged cells. The majority of patients require 1 treatment, with annual touch-ups as needed. Patients are required to avoid sun exposure for 48 hours after undergoing photodynamic therapy.
BroadBand Light photorejuvenation (BBL) delivers powerful pulses of broadband light energy to sun-damaged skin. This energy breaks up excess pigments to create smooth, even skin tone. Additionally, heat pulses from BBL photorejuvenation encourage normal collagen production for continuing results in the months following BBL treatment.
NYC dermatologist, Dr. Jody Levine, NYC plastic surgeon, Dr. Elie Levine, and the staff at Plastic Surgery and Dermatology of NYC welcome any questions you may have about laser skin resurfacing, photodynamic therapy, and BBL photorejuvenation, as well as our other sun damage treatments. The double chin is a cosmetic concern for many patients. Due to a variety of possible causes, including obesity, age, and genetics, this area is especially prone to the buildup of excess fat cells below the chin—known as “submental fat.” The presence of fat along the neck and jawline can result in an older, heavier appearance and may be resistant to diet and exercise. However, thanks to the latest advancements in cosmetic treatments, there is a new, non-invasive solution for submental fat. Kybella is the first FDA-approved injectable to reduce submental fat causing the appearance of a double chin!
Kybella is made from deoxycholic acid—a substance found naturally in the body that helps with the absorption of fat cells. Once injected, Kybella begins breaking down submental fat cells so that the body can better absorb them. These fat cells are then permanently removed from your system, ensuring long-lasting definition and youthful contours!
Kybella is the first non-invasive treatment for double chins, meaning there is no need for surgery or anesthesia, which results in no scarring. Individual treatments last roughly 15-20 minutes, while a series of 2-6 injections spread out over time is recommended in order to produce the best results. Patients can return to their daily routines immediately following Kybella treatment. Results can begin to be seen up to a month after treatment, while mild side effects, such as redness or bruising, should subside after a few weeks.
Kybella treatment is ideal for patients who have a moderate amount of submental fullness. Those with larger amounts of submental fat may need to reduce excess fat through diet and exercise; these patients may also benefit from alternatives, such as submental liposuction, SmartLipo, or VASER® LipoSelection, among others.
NYC dermatologist, Dr. Jody Levine, NYC plastic surgeon, Dr. Elie Levine, and the staff at Plastic Surgery and Dermatology of NYC welcome any questions you may have about Kybella, as well as our other non-surgical treatments! Advancements in technology have allowed for some of the most minimally-invasive treatments available! Patients who have concentrated pockets of excess fat can now target these areas with precision. One such location is the area underneath the chin. These excess fat cells—also known as submental fat cells—are often tough to eliminate with traditional methods of fat loss.
Cutting-edge procedures, however, have allowed for the specific targeting of these cells to reduce submental fullness. New York plastic surgeon Dr. Elie Levine can combine numerous procedures to achieve a graceful neck and jawline, including submental liposuction, SmartLipo, VASER® LipoSelection, and LazerLift, among others.
Submental liposuction can target the area underneath the chin, as well as the upper neckline, to help create natural-looking contours. Patients with a moderate amount of excess fat can undergo submental liposuction to gently remove localized fat from the submental area.
Advanced Liposuction Techniques
Additionally, specialized liposuction methods can aid in crafting an elegant facial profile. VASER® LipoSelection utilizes ultrasound energy to selectively target submental fat cells, while leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed. SmartLipo® is another minimally-invasive option that delivers controlled laser energy to firm skin and remove small pockets of fat.
Once excess fat is removed, Dr. Levine can sculpt the submental area to add youthful definition! LazerLift is a minimally-invasive option to tighten sagging skin for smooth curves around the chin and jawline. LazerLift uses laser technology to safely heat the area under the surface of your skin to promote tissue tightening and stimulate natural collagen production for sculpted, natural-looking results.
These are just some of our submental fat solutions! Dr. Levine will help craft a personalized treatment plan to suit your specific needs and desired results.

Are you unsatisfied with your facial features and looking to achieve a more refreshed appearance and enhance contours? Plastic Surgery and Dermatology of NYC offers facial rejuvenation solutions that can treat a host of conditions, including loss of facial volume or definiton, hollowing, and facial folds. Our procedures can be combined depending on the needs of each patient in order to produce optimal results. NYC plastic surgeon, Dr. Elie Levine, is dedicated to offering specialized facial rejuvenation solutions that satisfy your treatment goals. Below are just some of our innovative procedures!
Browlift – Lift Your Expression!
Over time, the skin above the brow can droop as a result of aging, heredity, stress, sun exposure, and muscle activity. This sagging skin causes wrinkles to appear around the forehead. In addition, excess skin may begin to hang over the eyelids—causing an older or even sullen look, in some cases. A browlift can lift the brow to reduce forehead wrinkles and achieve a more youthful appearance. Patients with mild drooping may be candidates for a non-surgical browlift, which utilizes BOTOX® Cosmetic or dermal fillers to ease forehead muscles that cause a pulling of the brow. A non-surgical browlift can achieve a “lifting” effect and restore lost volume around the eyes.
Rhinoplasty – Add Shape And Balance To Your Nose!
Looking to change the size and shape of your nose? Rhinoplasty can achieve a natural-looking, symmetrical nose for a more balanced facial profile. Rhinoplasty can also improve breathing issues for patients who experience functional problems, such as a deviated septum. Non-surgical rhinoplasty is a viable treatment option for temporary results without extensive downtime; this non-surgical method utilizes dermal fillers to correct nose size and shape to add balance.
Chin Augmentation – Enhancements For A Sculpted Chin!
A defined chin can be one of the most noticeable components of your overall facial profile. Enhancements to the shape and size of your chin can accentuate surrounding facial features. A chin augmentation uses chin implants to improve overall chin and jawline porportion. Patients seeking a less-invasive alternative may explore non-surgical chin augmentation options using dermal fillers to reshape the chin and promote contouring.
NY Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Elie Levine, NYC dermatologist, Dr. Jody Levine, and the staff at Plastic Surgery and Dermatology of NYC welcome any questions you may have about a browlift, rhinoplasty, chin augmentation, or non-surgical treatments, as well as our other facial rejuvenation procedures.
