Weight Loss Tips Before Considering Plastic Surgery in NY

Setting small, short term goals is a great way to break up the steps to achieve long term weight loss. Having a long term goal of losing one, three, or even five dress sizes for your New Year’s Resolution (depending on your current weight) is great, but how do you intend to jump to that end result? Exercise and diet are wonderful means of becoming fit and healthy. If you’re considering plastic surgery, such as body lift, to remove excess skin after your weight loss, Dr. Elie Levine has a few diet and exercise tips to keep in mind while losing weight:

Exercise: Develop a regular exercise routine that you enjoy and can manage within your busy schedule. Undergoing surgery at a weight that you can maintain is important in order to achieve long term results. Remember to continue your exercise schedule even after surgery!

Diet: Dr. Elie Levine does not recommend the use of fad diets. The best diets are the ones that can be maintained both before and after surgery. Remember to eat 3 balanced meals per day and avoid nighttime snacks.

Plastic Surgery: Body sculpting procedures should be performed when you are at an ideal body weight. This weight should be your long term target weight that can be maintained throughout a lifetime.

2014 Beauty Resolutions: how to meet your New Years’ goals and remain slim all season.

What’s your 2014 beauty resolution? For many, meeting the goal of a more confident, beautiful appearance tops the list of goals for the New Year, but before you go in for your rejuvenated look check out what to know before plastic surgery.  Getting to your ideal weight and healthy habits before surgery promotes quick healing and an easier transition to the “new you.” Start out as a healthy patient with these pre and post-operative tips from NY plastic surgeon, Dr. Elie Levine.

Before Surgery:

Dieting: In some case, patients may follow a strict diet to become candidates for procedures they may not have otherwise qualified for, such as liposuction. No matter what procedure you are planning to undergo however, a healthy diet will help your body prepare for surgery.

Medication: Avoid using medications that carry a risk of bleeding, such as aspirin, Motrin, and Vitamin E. These products should be avoided 2 weeks before surgery and after surgery. Consult with your plastic surgeon for the best advice.    

Lifestyle Choices: You may be advised to eliminate alcohol intake prior to your surgery and eliminate caffeine intake.

After Surgery:

Dieting: Following surgery, you should drink lots of fluids, preferably water, and eat well. A continued healthy diet will keep your body happy and allow it to take the necessary energy it needs to help you recover.

Medication: Patients should always take pain medication as advised to ensure the fastest recovery. Pain can make your blood pressure go up which leads to increased swelling and bleeding. So, it is important you follow your plastic surgeons instructions.

Lifestyle Choices: Do not smoke and avoid alcohol consumption while taking medications. Smoking delays healing and can lead to complications.

Exercise: While you may be bed-ridden for a day or so following surgery, most procedures will allow you to be up and about. Movement will increase blood flow and encourage faster healing times. In many cases, you will be asked to avoid heavy lifting. Your board certified plastic surgeon will discuss your individual situation with you following surgery.

Follow-up appointments: Be sure attend any follow-up appointments your plastic surgeon recommends to ensure your recovery is running smoothly. He will recommend any further suggestions to speed-up your recovery following plastic surgery.
