Though the summer has concluded, some may still be seeing the effects of sun damage after spending the past few months outdoors. Sun damage often presents itself as redness, blemishes, or uneven pigmentation on your skin. Over time, sun exposure can also lead to the formation of unsightly wrinkles and fine lines. The face, arms, chest, hands, and legs are among the most common areas affected by the sun’s rays. New York dermatologist Dr. Jody Levine of Plastic Surgery and Dermatology of NYC specializes in treating sun damaged skin to restore a natural-looking complexion! Below are some of the different laser and light-based modalities available at our New York City office.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing is an innovative skin care procedure that uses PicoSure® laser technology to resurface your skin and encourage the growth of new skin cells. PicoSure® technology can deliver bursts of energy to the skin’s surface with the upmost precision and efficiency, while ensuring the surrounding skin cells are left unharmed. Heat from the PicoSure® laser also stimulates the production of new collagen in the underlying skin layers to promote youthful-looking skin.
Photodynamic therapy uses light-based techniques to improve skin tone and texture, while also addressing the medical effects of sun damage, such as actinic keratosis. During this non-invasive procedure, a photosensitizing topical medication is applied to the target area and is absorbed by the damaged skin cells. Next, the area is exposed to a specialized light source, which activates the topical medication and eliminates sun damaged skin cells. Photodynamic therapy can achieve substantial results with only 1 treatment. Follow up appointments are required, if necessary, to maintain your complexion.
BBL (BroadBand Light) photorejuvenation is a light-based procedure that can break up excess or uneven skin pigmentation. Pulses of light are delivered to the target area(s), restoring a smooth, glowing skin tone. Heat from the BBL device can encourage new collagen production for months following your BBL photorejuvenation treatment.
