Chin Augmentation – Chin Implants

A weak chin, whether you were born with it, or it is receding due to aging or trauma, can be corrected by a simple procedure called Chin Augmentation and the use of chin implants.  A well-defined chin is part of a balanced face with all the features being harmonious.  Aging and gravity cause the fat pad in the chin to appear droopier and become narrower. The muscles and fat of the lower face also begin to descend creating folds called marionette lines while the chin and lower lip may turn inward.  Dr. Levine can rejuvenate this area of your face with chin augmentation and injectable treatments that will restore a more youthful appearance to your lower face.

Chin Augmentation also corrects a chin that is too prominent and out of proportion with the rest of the facial features.  This is accomplished by reducing the chin to the proper size to bring it into balance. Your Personal Consultation
During this time with Dr. Levine you will be able to discuss concerns in detail and get all your questions answered.  He will examine your chin and jaw to pinpoint problems, and will also determine your skin type. Upon request pictures will be taken and computer imaging will be used to help educate you about the procedure(s) and allow you to see optimal outcomes. During this appointment Dr. Levine will discuss all your options with you, and will design your treatment plan based on your goals and realistic expectations. 

Chin Augmentation Overview
After your are prepped and made totally comfortable, Dr. Levine will make an incision either in that natural crease line just under the chin or inside the mouth where the gum and lower lip meet.  After gently stretching this tissue, he is then able to insert the implant or move/sculpt the bone if chin reduction is being performed.  After he has completed the work to be done, he will close the incision with sutures.  The scar will be nearly invisible if under the chin and not visible at all if inside the mouth.

What to Expect After Your Chin Augmentation Surgery
You will wear a dressing for 2-3 days post-operative.  Minimal swelling, bruising and tenderness is normal and will be managed with cool compresses, modified diet and oral pain medication if needed.  You may experience a “stretched tight” sensation for about a week.  In about six weeks you will no longer notice any swelling and will be able to see and enjoy the results of your surgery.  It is commonly reported that Chin Augmentation not only enhances your appearance – but also boosts your self-esteem!
