5 Options to Treat Double Chin!

POSTED ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 22, 2015 AT 2:29 PM by Dr. Jody Levine

A graceful, contoured chin is among the most coveted physical attributes among patients, as it can promote attractiveness and inspire confidence in one’s appearance. However, there are numerous factors that can take away from jaw line definition, including age, your genetics, and obesity. Submental fat cells underneath the chin may begin to build up over time, resulting in a rounded chin-line. Moreover, neck skin may begin to droop with age, creating the appearance of excess fat under the chin. At Plastic Surgery and Dermatology of NYC, New York dermatologist Dr. Jody Levine utilizes numerous non-surgical procedures to reduce the appearance of double chin. See which of these 5 submental fat treatments may be right for you.

SkinTyte™ To Tighten Tissues

Laser skin tightening can firm up lax neck skin that contributes to double chin. SkinTyte™ is a non-invasive laser skin tightening procedure that uses light pulses to heat the deeper layers of the skin. The laser’s heat results in the contraction of your body’s collagen fibers to produce a long-lasting firming effect, while also stimulating new collagen production in the deep dermis. The SkinTyte™ laser is applied above the neck and simultaneously provides a cooling effect on the skin’s surface during treatment to minimize patient discomfort.

Lift Sagging Skin With SmartLipo™

SmartLipo™ is a minimally-invasive laser skin tightening treatment that can remove tiny deposits of fat around the chin to improve contours and produce optimal skin firming results. Like SkinTyte™, SmartLipo™ utilizes heat energy to target tissues in the deep dermis and promote skin tightening, as well as the production of new collagen. Rather than treat lax neck skin above the surface, the SmartLipo™ laser is inserted beneath the skin through a tiny incision. Once in place, the laser begins to deliver heat to the target area, destroying fat cells and producing long-lasting skin tightening results. Patients are given a local anesthetic during their SmartLipo™ procedure to reduce discomfort.

BOTOX® To Reduce Neck Banding & Folds

BOTOX® can temporarily reduce the appearance of neck bands and folds that contribute to double chin by relaxing neck muscles. BOTOX® injections block nerve impulses that result in wrinkles and bands. As your muscles relax, the surrounding skin becomes smoother, reducing droopiness and promoting a firmer, younger-looking chin line. BOTOX® results typically last several months before follow-up treatment is required to maintain your youthful jaw line.

Eliminate Submental Fat With Kybella™

Kybella™ is the first non-invasive injection to eliminate submental fat cells from the body for a more-defined jaw line. Recently approved by the FDA, Kybella™ is made from deoxycholic acid, a substance found in the body that helps break down fat cells. The Kybella™ solution is administered to the area under the chin through a series of small injections spread evenly around your double chin. Once injected, Kybella™ begins targeting submental fat cells. Over time, these cells are removed from the body, offering long-lasting submental fat reduction for patients.

Submental Liposuction To Remove Excess Fat Cells

Submental liposuction can shape the neck by removing small pockets of submental fat to promote smooth contours around the jaw line. Cannulas are inserted through small incisions around the area of your double chin to gently suction excess fat cells from your body. The removal of these submental fat cells through liposuction can improve chin definition and reduce the appearance of double chin. Local anesthesia is administered during your submental liposuction procedure to minimize discomfort.

These double chin removal procedures may be combined to produce ideal results, depending on each patient’s individual needs and goals. Dr. Levine will discuss the best course of action for your double chin treatment during your consultation at our New York office.

Facial Rejuvenation Solutions to Reinvigorate, Restore, & Revitalize Your Look!

POSTED ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 08, 2015 AT 9:27 AM by Dr. Elie Levine

Looking to restore a youthful glow to your facial profile? As we get older, our age inevitably starts to catch up to our appearance in one form or another. Facial tissues begin to sag, leaving creases and folds that contribute to a worn look. At Plastic Surgery and Dermatology of NYC, Dr. Elie Levine specializes in facial rejuvenation procedures to improve facial contours and definition for natural-looking results. Below are just a few of our facial surgery solutions that can be combined to achieve a more youthful you!

Reinvigorate The Eyes

Eyelid surgery can lift the eyelids back to a natural position in order to improve the appearance of your gaze. Also known as blepharoplasty, this facial rejuvenation technique removes excess or sagging skin around the eyes to restore youthful contours to the upper lids. Patients who suffer from under-eye bags, puffiness, or hooding around the eyelids can opt for blepharoplasty to reduce the appearance of these troublesome issues. Combining a facelift with a blepharoplasty will enhance your results and create facial harmony.

Restore Facial Contours

Facelift surgery targets loose and sagging skin around all areas of the face. A facelift can smooth wrinkles and deep creases by elevating soft tissue and tightening lax skin. Jowls can also be corrected through facelift surgery. Undergoing a facelift and fat transfer can restore volume and improve facial definition for long-term results.

Replenish Jaw Line Definition

Many patients consider the chin a cosmetic concern. A receding jaw line can result in a rounded facial profile. Chin implant surgery can add definition to the chin for a prominent-looking jaw line that inspires confidence. Chin implants can be shaped and sized according to your specific goals and desires, allowing for chin augmentation results that enhance your individual facial profile. Placing a chin implant in combination with a neck lift will produce a more balanced and complete youthful appearance.

Revitalize The Neck Line

If your neck is affected by aging in the form of drooping skin and neck bands, a neck lift may be a viable option for you. Neck lift surgery can tighten lax and sagging neck skin to create a defined neck line. Undergoing a neck lift can complement blepharoplasty, facelift and chin augmentation results, while cosmetic fillers can add temporary volume to areas of the neck without undergoing surgery.

Stay Deodorant Free! Stop Underarm Sweat and Odor with miraDry®

POSTED ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2015 AT 10:34 AM by Dr. Jody Levine

Is unsightly sweat keeping you from enjoying your favorite clothing or social gatherings with confidence? Underarm sweating can result in embarrassing wetness and odor, as well as rashes or irritation. Additionally, for many, combating sweating with deodorant may leave white antiperspirant stains on clothes, impacting self-esteem. Patients may be hesitant to wear their favorite outfits for fear of unattractive stains caused by both underarm sweat and excessive use of deodorant. Moreover, excessive sweating can result in unwanted stress, leading to further perspiration.

However, did you know there is a long-term solution to underarm sweating? Introducing miraDry®: the first FDA-approved treatment to eliminate the burdensome effects of armpit sweating, as well as the need for deodorant. Here at Plastic Surgery & Dermatology of NYC, our New York dermatologist, Dr. Jody Levine, is proud to offer this non-surgical procedure for those looking to say goodbye to underarm sweat and antiperspirant.

How MiraDry® Works:

MiraDry® is specially designed to eliminate excess sweat glands under the arms that cause perspiration. The miraDry® system uses focused miraWave™ energy to gradually destroy sweat glands during treatment. First, the miraDry® hand-piece is applied to the skin and uses suctioning to position perspiration glands closer to the skin’s surface. Once sweat glands are optimally positioned, the miraDry® system sends waves of concentrated energy to the armpit area, while simultaneously providing a cooling sensation to minimize pain or discomfort. As sweat glands are exposed to the miraWave™ energy, they are gradually eliminated.

Why Undergo MiraDry® Treatment?

MiraDry® can effectively destroy both eccrine glands (perspiration-causing glands) and apocrine glands (odor-causing glands)—making miraDry® an ideal procedure for patients suffering from sweat stains and/or odor. After undergoing miraDry® treatment, patients no longer need to apply deodorant! Additionally, miraDry® can remove troublesome armpit hair, as hair follicles are also targeted during the procedure.

How Long Does MiraDry® Last?

MiraDry® is shown to provide long-lasting sweat relief because excess sweat glands are permanently removed during the procedure. However, individual results vary by patient. Dr. Levine will discuss your specific goals to create an ideal treatment schedule that will yield optimal results.

NYC dermatologist, Dr. Jody Levine, NYC plastic surgeon, Dr. Elie Levine, and the staff at Plastic Surgery and Dermatology of NYC welcome any questions you may have about miraDry®. Contact our office at 212.988.1800, or request an appointment online today for your personal consultation!

Which Liposuction Options Are Right for You?

POSTED ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2015 AT 10:24 AM by Dr. Elie Levine

With winter around the corner, it’s time to cover up. As the arctic air and blowing snow arrives, people take refuge in layers of thermals and heavy coats to protect themselves from the winter chill. This may be a perfect opportunity for those considering a body sculpting procedure. The winter months allow for ample time to recover from liposuction before the summer arrives! But how do you know which form of liposuction is right for you? Below are some of the liposuction methods we utilize here at Plastic Surgery and Dermatology of NYC. These liposuction options can treat a variety of areas, including the abdomen, hips, thighs, arms, and more!

Tumescent Liposuction and Super Wet Liposuction

When undergoing tumescent liposuction, a solution is injected into the treatment area to reduce patient discomfort and to prepare the area for fat removal. Upon injection, the targeted area becomes firm and makes fat cells easier and safer to suction. Cannulas are then inserted to begin gently removing fat from the area, often without the need for general anesthesia. Those looking to selectively target areas of fat can do so with tumescent liposuction.

Super wet liposuction is similar to tumescent liposuction in that it uses a specialized solution to treat the target area. However, super wet liposuction uses a smaller volume injected than the tumescent liposuction technique (approximately half the amount of solution).

Power Assisted Liposuction

Power assisted liposuction (PAL) uses a specialized electric device to create an oscillating cannula so that fat can be easily suctioned. This is very effective when treating larger areas.

SmartLipo

SmartLipo® is an advanced liposuction technique utilizing laser technology to remove stubborn pockets of fat while promoting skin tightening. SmartLipo® is ideal for targeting smaller concentrations of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. The SmartLipo® laser can liquefy fat before being suctioned out. Additionally, the laser’s heat stimulates collagen growth to reinforce skin structure and produce a tightening effect.

VASER LipoSelection®

VASER® LipoSelection uses ultrasound technology to precisely target localized areas of fat. VASER® LipoSelection sends ultrasound energy to the affected area, making it easier to remove fat. Like SmartLipo®, VASER® LipoSelection also yields skin tightening results in the months following your VASER® procedure.

These liposuction techniques can be combined in order to achieve optimal results! Additionally, liposuction may be utilized alongside both surgical and non-surgical body sculpting or facial rejuvenation procedures to meet the needs of each patient.

NYC plastic surgeon, Dr. Elie Levine, NYC dermatologist, Dr. Jody Levine, and the staff at Plastic Surgery and Dermatology of NYC welcome any questions you may have about tumescent liposuction, super wet liposuction, power assisted liposuction, SmartLipo®, and VASER® LipoSelection, as well as our other body sculpting procedures! Breast Cancer Awareness Month – Know Your Breast Reconstruction Options

POSTED ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2015 AT 4:45 PM by Dr. Elie Levine

Breast cancer is the most common cancer found in women, and approximately one in eight women will be affected over the course of their lives. Additionally, thousands of men develop breast cancer each year. Breast Cancer Awareness Month not only reminds us of those who have been diagnosed and have fought breast cancer so bravely, but it also raises awareness about options following surgery that many women may not realize are available. The decision to undergo breast reconstruction after breast cancer is an important decision in the recovery process for many survivors. There are numerous questions that need to be considered when undergoing a breast reconstruction procedure post-mastectomy to determine the best option for you.

What Are My Options?

Breast Implants

Patients can choose from three types of breast implants: silicone gel implants, saline implants, and gummy implants. All three of these options come in different implant shapes for natural-looking results, including round and teardrop-shaped implants. A tissue expander is used to slowly stretch the skin and muscle in order to create a pocket in which to place your breast implant.

Tissue Flap Surgery

Tissue flap surgery utilizes skin, muscle, and fat from your body to produce a more natural-looking appearance. Tissue flaps can be taken from a variety of areas, including the back and abdomen. While the tissue flap method can produce more realistic-looking results, it is important to know that these procedures are more invasive—requiring more downtime after surgery.

Fat Transfer

Autologous fat transfer, also known as fat grafting, is another breast reconstruction procedure that harvests fat cells from other parts of your body to recreate a breast. This fat is carefully collected to ensure survival during the transfer. Once processed, these cells are injected into the breast area.

What Results Can I Expect?

All three of these procedures can produce natural-looking results and help restore the appearance of breasts. Depending on the procedure, it may take weeks, or even months, for your final results to take shape. Once they are achieved, however, they are long-lasting.

Breast plastic surgeon Dr. Elie Levine will sit down and discuss each breast reconstruction option with you in order to create a treatment plan to achieve natural-looking results that fit your goals and desires.
