Pediatric Melanoma is on the Rise

Although still rare, pediatric melanoma is on the rise. Unlike adult melanoma, pediatric melanoma often appears as a blemish similar to a wart, pink or without pigment in areas that have not been exposed to the sun. Since pediatric melanoma is so rare and different than adult melanoma, it’s often diagnosed in late stages. Fortunately, with advances in treatment and a child’s strong immune system, advanced melanoma can be treated successfully. What is behind the increase?
