KYBELLA™

Remove Double Chin with Kybella™ in NYC

Kybella Double Chin TreatmentKybella™ is the first FDA-approved injection for treating "double chin”. The area below the chin is a cosmetic concern for many patients, due to the accumulation of excess fat that results in the appearance of double chins. Also known as submental fat, these fat cells can lessen definition around the jawline and result in a heavier-looking, less youthful appearance. Kybella™ treatment can reduce excess fat under the chin to improve facial contours for a more-defined neck and chin.

What is Kybella™ and how does it work?

Kybella™ is made from deoxycholic acid. Found naturally in the body, deoxycholic acid assists with the breakdown and processing of fat cells. Kybella™ injections target submental fat and reduce these cells from the body over the course of treatment. Once Kybella™ is injected into the submental area, the solution begins breaking down fat cells for removal, resulting in a gradual improvement in chin and greater jawline definition.

How is Kybella™ different from other fillers?

Unlike dermal fillers, which utilize substances like hyaluronic acid to temporarily smooth facial wrinkles and add volume for an improved, youthful-looking face, Kybella™ targets the underlying causes of submental fat. Kybella™ treatment works to reduce double chin by directly targeting submental fat cells for long-lasting results.

What areas can be treated with Kybella™?

Kybella™ targets submental fat cells underneath the chin and directly above the upper neck.

Is Kybella™ safe and are there any possible side effects?

Kybella™ is approved by the FDA and has been clinically tested before its release. You may experience slight redness, bruising, firmness, swelling, or tenderness at the site of your Kybella™ injection in the days following treatment.*

Who should administer Kybella™?

Kybella™ injections are best administered by a qualified dermatologist or plastic surgeon with an understanding of proper technique and safety. Both Dr. Jody Levine and Dr. Elie Levine are able to safely administer this double chin reduction treatment and have years of experience addressing cosmetic concerns of the face and neck. Our Kybella™ doctors would be happy to answer your questions about whether Kybella™ is right for you.

How many treatments will I need?

Kybella™ treatment requires, on average 2-3 sessions, spread out approximately one month apart. The exact number of Kybella™ treatments administered will depend on the individual patient as well as the desired results. Each Kybella™ session consists of a number of small double chin injections. Dr. Levine will work with you to create a treatment schedule that will provide the best results.

When will I notice results?

After undergoing Kybella™ to remove double chin, results will vary from patient to patient. However, many patents see noticeable results in the weeks following their initial Kybella™ treatment, with continued improvement for up to a month after concluding the Kybella™ treatment cycle.*

How long will the results last?

Kybella™ results are long-lasting. This double chin injection breaks down submental fat cells, resulting in their removal from the body. Once these specific fat cells are removed naturally by the body, they cannot reenter the system.* However, factors such as weight gain, aging, and genetics may cause another buildup of submental fat cells. It is important to sustain a healthy lifestyle in order to maintain your Kybella™ results.

Can Kybella™ be combined with other procedures?

Yes. Various dermal fillers and other cosmetic injectables, such as BOTOX®, are often used concurrently to treat a variety of facial areas. Kybella™ can be combined with different cosmetic injectables to provide balanced results for a more youthful-looking facial profile. Additionally, Kybella™ can be combined with facial rejuvenation procedures to achieve optimal results. Dr. Levine will discuss with you what procedure or combination of procedures may best suit your specific needs.

How can I prepare for Kybella™ treatment?

During your initial consultation, Dr. Levine will thoroughly discuss your goals and expectations, including possible risks and the best way to prepare for your treatment. As much as possible, patients should avoid taking aspirin and ibuprofen-containing products (such as Advil and Motrin), St. John’s Wort, high doses of vitamin E supplements, and other blood thinners (unless medically necessary) for 2 weeks prior to treatment in order to minimize the risk of bruising. Patients should also avoid red wine, herbal supplements, and multivitamins for 1 week prior to treatment.

What should I expect during treatment?

Kybella™ treatment is performed on an outpatient basis in our offices. The procedure is quick and simple, lasting about a half hour with minimal discomfort.* During the procedure, Kybella™ will be injected into the treatment area using an ultra-fine needle. Dr. Levine will carefully administer a series of tiny injections around the submental area in order to evenly administer the Kybella™ solution. A topical or local anesthetic may be used to increase patient comfort.

What should I expect after treatment?

You may resume your normal activities immediately following Kybella™ treatment. Swelling, bruising, redness, firmness, or tenderness is possible after your Kybella™ injection. These symptoms may last for a few days following treatment.* You may take Tylenol for discomfort if there is any, but don’t take aspirin or ibuprofen, which may increase bruising. Anti-bruising products containing Arnica Montana and Bromelain are offered and topical care discussed. Dr. Levine will determine which aftercare product is right for you. After treatment, patients may also choose to have LED therapy, which is known to significantly improve healing time and decrease inflammation.
