Preparation

Patients are generally advised to avoid nicotine, alcohol, and any medications or supplements with blood-thinning effects. We ask that you schedule time off work ahead of time to focus on your recovery, and you will need an adult you trust to drive you home after your treatment. Procedure

Male breast reduction surgery is performed by Dr. Elie Levine in our state-of-the-art, in-office operating suite, which is accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF). It may also be performed in a hospital setting. The length of your procedure will depend on whether you are having male breast reduction with liposuction only or liposuction combined with tissue excision, as well as the extent of your procedure.

  • Liposuction: When the gynecomastia is primary due to the presence of fatty tissue, Dr. Elie Levine can use liposuction alone to reshape the chest. In most cases, male breast reduction with liposuction alone will be characterized by a shorter procedure time of about 1-2 hours. After performing liposuction, Dr. Elie Levine often recommends radiofrequency skin tightening, such as Quantum RF. This helps address loose skin after liposuction removes volume from the chest. He also commonly uses BodyTite, a procedure that combines liposuction with radiofrequency skin tightening.
  • Breast Reduction Surgery: For people with an extensive amount of both skin and breast tissue, a slightly more invasive procedure may be required to address the gynecomastia. Dr. Elie Levine can excise excess tissue with discreet incisions around the areola to reshape the chest. He can also combine this method with liposuction to reduce the unwanted fat and further define the chest. The procedure time for liposuction combined with tissue excision will vary depending on the extent of the procedure, but on average, the surgery usually takes 2-3 hours.

Recovery

After your procedure, you will wake up in our recovery suite, where our licensed, registered nurse will ensure you are comfortable and assist in your recovery. You may return home the same day with a friend or family member. Dr. Elie Levine provides a long-acting pain reliever that makes the initial stages of recovery more comfortable.

You can generally expect mild bruising and swelling for 1-2 weeks after surgery. Most patients report mild pain after the surgery, which is usually well-tolerated with medications.
