Types of Dermal Fillers at Plastic Surgery & Dermatology of NYC
Dermal fillers are among the most widely sought-after aesthetic treatments. They are known for their ability to deliver stunning results without the necessity of a surgical procedure. (2) Fillers lift the skin, restore volume, and improve the appearance of deep and fine lines. Dermal fillers, also known as injectables, can address a wide range of aesthetic concerns, from enhancing the lips to sculpting the jawline and replacing lost volume in the temples, undereyes, cheeks, or lower face. Fillers can also help crepey skin on the neck, arms, and legs. PSD provides a range of customizable treatment options to help each patient achieve their facial and body skin rejuvenation goals.
Juvederm®
Juvederm is a family of injectable gel fillers that contains hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring biological substance that plays a key role in maintaining skin hydration and volume. (3)
- Juvederm Ultra: Perfect for adding plumpness to lips and perioral area, and smoothing out moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.
- Juvederm Ultra Plus: A more concentrated version formulated to address even deeper facial wrinkles and folds and provide a greater lift to sagging areas of the face.
- Juvederm Voluma: Designed to improve volume loss via deep injection into the cheek area, as well as augmenting the chin and addressing moderate to severe temple hollowing.
- Juvederm SkinVive: Hyaluronic acid microdroplets are injected beneath superficial layers of the skin, not to change facial shape or volume, but to improve texture and tone, amplifying hydration and skin brightness.
RADIESSE®
RADIESSE is a dermal filler containing calcium-based microspheres, making it stiffer than hyaluronic acid fillers and therefore suitable to provide more structure to areas such as the jawline and nasolabial folds. Enhanced fullness and smoother appearance of wrinkles are immediately visible after treatment, but RADIESSE’s biostimulating capabilities support collagen and elastin regeneration, creating improvements that can last for up to 2 years.
Restylane®
Restylane is another family of biocompatible hyaluronic acid fillers.
- Restylane Kysse: Restylane Kysse is a flexible cross-linked formulation designed to volumize thin or underdefined lips for smooth contours, supple fullness, and a full range of natural expression.
- Restylane Lyft: A thicker formulation that provides natural-looking lift and volume to areas around the mid-face, such as cheeks and nasolabial folds.
- Restylane Eyelight: Formulated specifically to address undereye hollows with reduced post-injection swelling and natural-looking dark shadow reduction.
Revanesse® Versa™
Revanesse Versa is a smooth gel hyaluronic acid filler with uniform particle size that minimizes post-injection swelling and provides a natural-looking correction for moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including nasolabial folds.
Evolysse™
This line of hyaluronic acid fillers is formulated through “Cold-X” technology to maintain structural integrity and promote more seamless tissue integration. We offer:
- Evolysse Form: This is a more structured filler designed for deep rejuvenation in areas such as the cheeks, jawline, and nasolabial folds.
- Evolysse Smooth: This is a smoother, more flexible version, ideal for marionette lines and other lines around the lips and eyes.
Belotero®
A cohesive hyaluronic acid gel filler known for its high viscosity and elasticity, Belotero is ideal for addressing delicate facial areas, such as etched-in vertical lines around the mouth and undereye hollows. Its formulation allows for flexible movement and natural-looking results.
RHA Fillers
The RHA (Resilient Hyaluronic Acid) collection of fillers consists of cohesive gel injectables molecularly designed to sustain plumping results and minimize wrinkles while adapting seamlessly to natural facial movements.
- ReDensity: Designed with the most flexibility, it is used to soften superficial wrinkles from repetitive expressions and is injected into the superficial dermis. It is suitable for moderate to severe lines, including those around the mouth.
- RHA2: Provides a gentle softening effect, administered within the middle dermis. It treats moderate wrinkles in the upper face, including forehead lines and crow’s feet.
- RHA3: Used to correct moderate to severe dynamic wrinkles like nasolabial folds and perioral lines, working within the deep dermis.
- RHA4: The primary volumizer in the collection, it has the strongest chemical structure and is injected into the subcutaneous or deepest layer of the skin. It offers the most dramatic results, restoring volume in areas like the cheeks and chin.
Corresponding Procedures
Sculptra®
Sculptra, often referred to as “liquid facelift,” contains poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible and biodegradable substance that safely breaks down and dissolves over time. Injected in the deep dermis, Sculptra provides structural support to promote collagen production, helping the body to naturally and gradually restore lost volume for results that last up to twice as long as traditional biocompatible fillers. This injectable can be used, off-label, to promote collagen in loose skin of the face as well as the body.
Thread Lift
As a non-surgical solution to tighten sagging skin on the face and neck, a thread lift involves placing biodegradable threads, including twist and smooth threads, beneath the surface of the skin to stimulate collagen production and manually lift the skin to smooth out nasolabial folds, jowls, and neck wrinkles for visible results and minimal downtime. These threads can also act as a filler to enhance facial volume.
alloClae®
alloClae is a cutting-edge, injectable structural adipose tissue filler derived from sterilized, decellularized donor fat. It is designed to add volume immediately while promoting regeneration over time. Because it uses purified donor fat and not the patient’s own fat, it is an excellent alternative for thinner patients who may not have sufficient excess fat for traditional fat grafting procedures.
Candidates
Potential candidates for dermal fillers are overall healthy adults who wish to address specific aesthetic concerns stemming from volume loss, wrinkles, and facial contours, but do not want or require a surgical procedure. These people should also have realistic expectations for what dermal fillers can help them achieve.
These individuals typically seek fillers to:
- Smooth static wrinkles and fine lines, such as nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the mouth) or marionette lines (lines from the mouth corners to the chin).
- Restore volume to sunken areas, such as the cheeks or temples.
- Enhance lip volume and definition.
- Improve the appearance of under-eye hollows (tear troughs).
- Correct minor irregularities in the nose (non-surgical rhinoplasty) or enhance the chin/jawline.
Patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain medical conditions or allergies should not receive dermal fillers.
Personal Consultation
At your personal consultation, your injector will review your anatomy and medical history and explain how dermal fillers work, including what type of filler may be appropriate for your goals. They also identify where volume loss is present and how strategic placement can improve balance and symmetry.

Preparing for Dermal Fillers
As a minimally invasive treatment, preparation for dermal filler injections is typically straightforward.
Some typical pre-treatment steps include:
- Arrive with clean skin free of makeup
- Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements
- Limit alcohol intake for at least 24 hours before treatment
- Refrain from nicotine use
Recovery
One of the greatest benefits of dermal filler treatment is the minimal recovery time. The staff at PSD provide detailed aftercare instructions to support a smooth, successful post-treatment phase. You may experience some swelling, redness, or bruising at injection sites, but it typically resolves within a couple of days.
PSD is also happy to provide support and resources for our international and out-of-town patients.
Dermal Filler Results
Dermal filler results are typically visible immediately and continue to improve as any swelling subsides. You will notice developing smoothness, restored volume, and improved facial balance. The duration of your results will vary depending on the type of filler you received. Certain formulas can deliver improvements that last up to 2 years.
Regular maintenance treatments can help you sustain your enhancements.
Cost of Dermal Fillers in NYC
The cost of dermal fillers varies depending on the type and amount of filler you receive, whether you choose to schedule maintenance treatments, the concerns you wish to address, and whether you include any corresponding procedures. During your personal consultation, Dr. Elie Levine or Dr. Jody Levine will provide a detailed cost estimate after finalizing the details of your personalized treatment plan.
